Egypt has successfully repatriated 13 ancient artifacts from the United States, marking a significant victory in Cairo's ongoing efforts to recover its cultural heritage. The recovered items, which include rare vessels, statues, and cosmetic containers, were illegally smuggled abroad.
The handover ceremony took place at the Egyptian Consulate General in New York. Among the returned objects are a 7th-century BC alabaster jar and a statue of the goddess Isis depicted as Aphrodite, showcasing a blend of Egyptian and Greek influences.
This recovery underscores Egypt's intensified efforts to reclaim antiquities. In November, 36 artifacts were also recovered from the US, and previously, 13 artifacts were returned from the UK and Germany.
The successful repatriation aligns with broader calls across Africa for the return of cultural artifacts looted during the colonial era. These efforts emphasize the critical role of international cooperation in confronting the illicit trafficking of cultural property.
