Grant Hunter, 34, has received a life sentence for the murder of gangland rival Marc Webley outside the Anchor Inn pub in Edinburgh on Hogmanay 2023. Hunter shot Webley, 38, in the back just before midnight, an act that also endangered Stuart Pearson. Hunter must serve a minimum of 26 years, with the possibility of never being released.
Hunter pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in November. His former partner, Emma McVie, was sentenced to four years and six months for cleaning the getaway car and Hunter's clothes. Gary Robertson received six years and six months for disposing of the gun used in the attack.
The judge, Lord Mulholland, highlighted that Hunter intentionally removed his balaclava, allowing Webley to see his face, an aggravating factor that led to his swift arrest. The court emphasized zero tolerance for gangsterism, stating that such criminality results in lengthy prison sentences and leaves families devastated.
