The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated searches across three locations in Hyderabad, targeting alleged ganja racket kingpin Neetu Bai as part of a significant money-laundering investigation. This action arises from drug cases previously registered by Telangana's Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE).
ED sources indicate these searches are part of a nationwide enforcement drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, specifically focusing on narcotics cases. In Hyderabad, the agency's attention is on Neetu Bai, who is listed as absconding in multiple FIRs filed by EAGLE with the Cyberabad Narcotics Police Station.
The ED has opened its case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), examining alleged proceeds generated from ganja sales and their subsequent handling. EAGLE records identify Neetu Bai's residence in Lodha Basthi, Nanakramguda, as the hub of an alleged family-operated ganja retail business. Her husband, sons, and daughter are reportedly involved in the packaging and sale of the drug.
Evidence gathered by EAGLE suggests a significant operation, with a 2026 case noting 49 individuals intercepted buying ganja from the residence in a single day. Most tested positive for THC. During a search of Neetu Bai's home, Rs 2.6 lakh in cash was discovered, allegedly representing proceeds from ganja sales.
Neetu Bai is also implicated as an absconding accused in other Cyberabad narcotics cases, with past purchasers stating they had acquired ganja from her Nanakramguda residence for extended periods. Customers reportedly include students, employees, and gig workers. Due to repeated ganja-selling offenses, the Gachibowli police invoked the Preventive Detention Act against Neetu Bai in 2025, though she was later released after securing relief from the Supreme Court.
The ED's current probe focuses on determining if the alleged narcotics trade has generated proceeds of crime and if these proceeds have been concealed, used, or dealt with in violation of PMLA provisions.
