E. Jean Carroll has finally received settlement funds from Donald Trump after securing two substantial court victories. The 82-year-old writer, who accused Trump of sexual assault, was initially awarded $5 million in 2023 by a jury. This was followed by a subsequent $83 million defamation judgment in 2024. Her attorney confirmed the full payment has been collected.
Meanwhile, a documentary chronicling Carroll's life and legal triumphs, "Ask E. Jean," is set for a digital release on October 15. The film faced initial financing challenges and difficulty securing a major distributor. Producer Laura Bickford facilitated independent financing for the project.
Carroll was initially hesitant to participate in a documentary but was persuaded after viewing Ivy Meeropol's film about Roy Cohn. She found the filmmaking process therapeutic, helping her process her experiences. The film draws on extensive archives, including rescued VHS tapes and deposition videos.
Carroll's memoir, "Not My Type: One Woman vs. a President," published in June 2025, became a New York Times bestseller, indicating public interest in her story. She noted that people are fascinated by the "old lady who beat Donald Trump."
