Dwarka police have registered a case against Shivam Thakar, a local resident, for allegedly defrauding devotees of Rs 1.02 lakh. Thakar is accused of issuing forged receipts for Dhwaja offerings at the renowned Shree Dwarkadhish Temple.
According to the police report, Thakar collected Rs 51,000 from each of two devotees, Puja Mewada and Deep Mer, claiming to book their Dhwaja offerings. The money was reportedly transferred directly into his personal bank account.
The alleged fraud came to light when Tirthrajsinh Rajput, a Bhuj-Kutch resident, approached the Samast Gugali Brahmin Gnati 505, the organization managing the Dhwaja rituals, for booking confirmation. He presented two receipts and payment details.
Dhaval Devmurari, the organization's manager, identified the receipts as counterfeit, noting they bore forged signatures and lacked official trust contact information. Subsequent transaction records confirmed that the Rs 1.02 lakh payment for the bookings had been transferred to Thakar's account.
An FIR has been filed against Thakar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are actively investigating to determine if Thakar defrauded other devotees in a similar manner.
