In Dumka district, authorities apprehended a 22-year-old man on Monday in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old woman. The accused, identified as Jageshwar Marandi, is alleged to have strangled Sarodhani Hembram, a daily wager, and stolen Rs 1 lakh from her bank account on February 10. Hembram's body was found in a well on Monday in Bagjhopa village.
According to police reports, Marandi lured Hembram to a remote location under a false pretense. He then forcibly took her phone, demanding the password to her online payment application. When she resisted, he subjected her to a violent assault. Subsequently, he transferred the sum of Rs 1 lakh to his own account before killing her and disposing of her body in a nearby well.
Hembram's family reported her missing on February 20 after she failed to return home. A technical investigation into her financial transactions revealed a suspicious transfer on February 10. This discovery was pivotal in leading to Marandi's arrest and his subsequent confession during interrogation. Charges of murder and tampering with evidence have been filed against him.
