A disruptive passenger received a 23-week prison sentence after his heavily intoxicated and abusive behaviour aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Manchester. The man, Wayne Scott, 47, exhibited loud and verbally abusive conduct, causing visible distress to fellow passengers, including families with children. Cabin crew were forced to physically restrain him using cable ties and a seat belt.
Upon landing at Manchester Airport on September 8 last year, Scott was met by police. He had become argumentative when asked to calm down and later adopted a 'boxing stance' in the aisle. Scott pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft, acknowledging his behaviour was "disgusting."
Scott's defense highlighted personal crises, including recent family bereavements and a marriage breakdown. However, the judge emphasized the abhorrent nature of his actions and the significant concern caused to others on the flight, stating that a custodial sentence was necessary.
