Nelson was serving a nine-year sentence for conspiracy to supply cocaine when he escaped from an open prison in 2024 during day release. He then traveled to Scotland, Ireland, and eventually Thailand, where he lived a luxurious lifestyle. He returned to the UK in 2025 and promptly began operating a new class-A drug network called the 'Banksy line'.
North Yorkshire Police's Operation Sentry team initiated efforts to track Nelson, who attempted to evade capture by moving between addresses with the help of associates. His activities were uncovered when police stopped a vehicle linked to him, finding a mobile phone containing information about the 'Banksy line'. This evidence confirmed Nelson's role as the principal controller of the drug operation. He was arrested, charged, and found guilty at York Crown Court on Wednesday, August 12, receiving an immediate 11-year custodial sentence for being concerned in the supply of class-A drugs and unlawful escape from prison.
