Man Stamped on Woman's Head After Car Crash
24 Feb
Summary
- Defendant allegedly killed a woman by stamping on her head.
- The victim was a stranger who had just disembarked a bus.
- The accused denies murder but admits manslaughter.

A fatal assault occurred on June 24 last year when Chukwuemeka Ahanonu, 23, allegedly killed a passerby. The trial heard that Ahanonu, a drug dealer, crashed his car before attacking 56-year-old Nila Patel. Patel, who was a stranger to Ahanonu, was reportedly pulled from behind, punched, kicked, and stamped on.
The victim suffered severe brain and facial injuries and died in hospital two days later. Ahanonu has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, citing diminished responsibility, but denies murder. Prosecutors revealed Ahanonu claimed to earn £10,000 monthly from drug dealing and had consumed a significant amount of cannabis prior to the incident.
Evidence presented included footage from a security guard's body-worn camera. The defense is expected to argue that Ahanonu was developing schizophrenia. The trial, which is expected to last four weeks, continues at Leicester Crown Court.
