- The victim was allegedly killed due to mistaken identity.
- Drone evidence was crucial in the arrest of two suspects.

An 18-year-old man, identified as a drone operator, has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in western Sydney. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 2, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Joshua Macdonald at a Merrylands West home. Police are investigating the case as a potential mistaken identity.
Detectives arrested the 18-year-old and a 19-year-old man on Friday morning in West Hoxton. The younger suspect faces charges of murder and participating in a criminal group. Evidence obtained from a forensically examined drone allegedly links him to the shooting.
The 19-year-old has been charged with participating in a criminal group and driving with a suspended license. Both individuals were denied police bail initially. Police sources suggest the intended target may have been Moshtaba Hafizi, who reportedly has ties to the Alameddine crime family. This shooting follows another alleged mistaken identity killing on September 1 in Glen Alpine.
