In Ahmedabad, a rickshaw driver's alleged act of arson culminated in his own death. Nitin Chauhan, 33, reportedly set a woman's scooter ablaze outside her residence on Thursday afternoon. Shortly after, while attempting to escape, Chauhan collapsed and was found unresponsive.
Authorities suspect Chauhan, who was reportedly in poor health and had alcohol addiction affecting his liver, suffered a cardiac arrest. Paramedics confirmed his death at the scene. Investigators are examining the possibility that Chauhan's unrequited love for the woman, whose family had ceased using his services upon learning of his feelings, was the motive.
Materials found near Chauhan's body, including a matchbox and a petrol-smelling liquid in a bottle, are being sent for forensic analysis. A postmortem examination will determine the definitive cause of his death. The incident occurred in the Satellite area of Ahmedabad.
