Carlos Palazuelos, a DoorDash driver, has spoken out asserting his innocence after being detained in connection with the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. The incident occurred approximately an hour from Tucson, where Guthrie went missing over a week ago. Palazuelos was questioned following a traffic stop near his mother-in-law's residence in Rio Rico, Arizona.
During his detention, Palazuelos alleged that police held him against his will and did not read him his rights for two hours, causing swelling from handcuffs. He stated he does not know Nancy Guthrie and is unfamiliar with the Today Show. He described the experience as "terrifying" and akin to being kidnapped due to the lack of initial information from the authorities.
Palazuelos further claimed that police found insufficient evidence to charge him, despite their belief that he was at Guthrie's house. He suggested he might have delivered a package to her home while working for GLS. He confirmed police seized his phone, searched two vehicles, and inquired about his whereabouts, all while he maintained his lack of involvement in the disappearance.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding Palazuelos's connection to the case. A tip line has been established, and the FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie's recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance. Palazuelos mentioned that investigators showed his in-laws a picture of someone wearing a mask, noting a resemblance to his eyes.
