Summary
- Jyoti (27) forced to consume acid by in-laws
- Died after months of torture and treatment
- Dowry demands of Rs 10 lakh led to her death

On September 30, 2025, Gajraj Singh filed a complaint against his son-in-law Lalit (30) and four members of Lalit's family for allegedly forcing his daughter, Jyoti (27), to consume acid. Tragically, Jyoti passed away on October 31, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Meerut.
According to Gajraj's complaint, he had gone beyond his means to provide a car and cash as dowry for Jyoti's wedding to Delhi-based construction contractor Lalit about eight months ago. However, Lalit's family continued to demand more, physically torturing Jyoti and threatening to kill her. They allegedly wanted an additional Rs 10 lakh to start another business.
On September 15, 2025, Lalit informed Gajraj that Jyoti had met with an accident and was rushed to a hospital in Shahdara. When Gajraj reached the hospital, doctors revealed that Jyoti had been forced to drink acid. She was in critical condition, but her in-laws were nowhere to be found.
Jyoti's condition deteriorated, and she was eventually taken to a hospital in Meerut, where she succumbed to her injuries on October 31, 2025. Lalit's mother Pushpalata (53), his two brothers Himanshu (27) and Ashish (25), and his sister Puja (29) have been arrested in connection with the case. However, the prime suspect, Lalit, remains at large.
