A swift resolution to an illegal nilgai poaching case in Chhattisgarh's Keregaon reserve forest was achieved on March 22. Forest officials discovered the carcass of a three to four-year-old male nilgai, exhibiting three arrow injuries. The discovery prompted the deployment of a specialized dog squad from the Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve.
Utilizing an arrow found at the scene, the canine expertly tracked the scent, leading investigators directly to the residence of a suspect in Dokal village. This crucial breakthrough enabled the identification of Mannu as the primary accused, paving the way for the apprehension of his six accomplices.
The Dhamtari forest division has intensified its surveillance measures to combat wildlife poaching and forest crimes. The department is actively utilizing flying squads, strike forces, and local intelligence networks to deter such activities. Villagers are encouraged to report any suspicious behavior related to forest offenses, with assurances of confidentiality and potential rewards for informants.
