Man Charged After Dog Found Dead in Allegedly Stolen Ute

Nathan McKeown, 43, has been charged with multiple offenses following the discovery of his German Shepherd, Arnie, deceased in a parked ute. Arnie was found in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, on November 17. McKeown had previously initiated a widely shared social media campaign, seeking help to find Arnie and his ute, which he claimed were stolen from a Wynnum home on November 8.

Queensland Police have since revealed that McKeown faces additional charges, including driving without a license, driving under the influence, and serious obstruction of police. Investigators allege that McKeown drove the ute into Amelia Street on November 7 and abandoned the vehicle with Arnie inside. He reportedly then told his wife the car was stolen the next day, a claim she shared with police as part of the search efforts.

McKeown is scheduled to appear in a Brisbane court later this month to face these charges. The viral search for Arnie had garnered significant public support, with many Australians offering assistance and potential sightings.
