In a tragic incident on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, two dog owners in northwest Indiana were charged with animal neglect. Authorities were alerted around 2:20 p.m. to a dog in distress at a property on Jackson Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the animal lying unresponsive under a swing set, tethered and exposed to the intense heat. The temperature soared above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the dog lacked access to shade or adequate water. Despite immediate attempts by officers to provide cooling and hydration, the animal was suffering from severe heat-related distress and could not be revived.
The dog was rushed to a local animal hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, despite the veterinary intervention, the pet did not survive the ordeal. The owners have since been charged with animal neglect in connection with the incident.
