A deputy in Sedgwick County faced a dangerous situation Saturday morning when attacked by a pack of dogs while responding to a call in South Wichita. Upon arrival at a residence on South Hemlock Avenue, deputies encountered 10 to 15 dogs, likely Boston terriers, running loose.
While attempting to aid an 18-year-old male who was being attacked, the deputy was also targeted by the dogs. Two deputies discharged their weapons to disperse the animals; no one or property was struck by the gunfire. The dogs' owner eventually managed to contain them.
The 18-year-old was transported to a Wichita hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. A 69-year-old woman, who was also bitten by the dogs inside her son's home before fleeing, sought medical attention privately. The deputy sustained only minor injuries. Sedgwick County Animal Control is now investigating the incident and has taken possession of the dogs.
