Summary
- A Texas man faces animal cruelty charges for abandoning a puppy at Pittsburgh International Airport.
- The Labrador puppy was found running loose near the departures curb and is now in foster care.
- This is the second recent incident of a traveler abandoning a dog at the same airport.

A Labrador puppy was found abandoned at Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday evening, leading to charges against a Texas man. Omar Perez, 42, was charged with animal cruelty and abandonment after leaving the puppy near the departures curb. He initially claimed an Uber driver abandoned the dog but later admitted to leaving it himself when he learned he could not fly with it.
The puppy is now in foster care, and the local animal shelter has been inundated with adoption requests. This marks the second reported instance of a traveler abandoning a dog at PIT in recent years. In 2023, a woman left her bulldog in a stroller, facing neglect and cruelty charges that were later withdrawn after a guilty plea, resulting in a $150 fine.
The organization Animal Friends stated they are focused on the legal case to ensure the dog receives justice before determining its next steps and permanent home. The previous case highlighted the community's compassion, with numerous people offering to adopt the bulldog.
