The doctors were accused of falsely declaring a 79-year-old man COVID-19 positive in 2020, forging his test reports, and administering incorrect treatment that led to his death.
The case was filed with the Tofkhana police station after directions from the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court on October 15, 2025. The patient's son, Ashok Khokarale, had moved a criminal writ petition in 2022 after the police failed to register an FIR despite a 2021 inquiry report headed by the district civil surgeon concluding medical negligence.
The civil surgeon's report stated that the patient was administered remdesivir without a complete investigation, and that too about one-and-a-half hours after the patient's death. The inquiry committee had submitted the report only after Khokarale filed a civil writ petition in 2021 demanding a copy.
