Doctor Fired for Breaching Patient Confidentiality
15 Aug
Summary
- A doctor was sacked for gross misconduct related to patient data.
- The doctor shared details of a baby boy Letby was convicted of harming.
- An inquiry confirmed preliminary inquiries into the doctor's death.

A doctor has been dismissed for gross misconduct following a breach of patient confidentiality. The disciplinary hearing, which spanned three days in early June 2026, concluded with the doctor's termination two weeks later.
Reports indicate the leaked messages contained details concerning the care of a premature baby boy, identified as Baby N. This infant was targeted by Letby the day after his birth in June 2016, an act for which she was later convicted.
While the doctor denied a romantic relationship, describing their connection as "best friends," the information shared is understood to have violated patient confidentiality protocols.
Tragically, the doctor reportedly died after being taken to intensive care, never regaining consciousness. The Cheshire Coroner has confirmed that preliminary inquiries into the cause of death are underway.
In 2024, during the Thirlwall Inquiry investigating Letby's crimes, the doctor stated they felt misled and potentially manipulated by Letby. This testimony suggested Letby had used the doctor to obtain information about babies she had attacked.
