3 Oct
Summary
- Three men received life sentences for a 2004 AK-47 attack.
- The attack occurred at gangster Fahim Khan's house in Wasseypur.
- A bodyguard was killed and another man injured in the 2004 incident.
In a significant development concluding a two-decade-old case, a Dhanbad court has sentenced Shahid Alam, Shahadat Hussain, and Tanveer Alam to life imprisonment. The convictions stem from their roles in an AK-47 attack on gangster Fahim Khan's house in Wasseypur on January 29, 2004. The court found them guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, and Arms Act violations.
During the 2004 assault, armed assailants used AK-47s and other weapons, targeting Fahim Khan's residence. While Fahim Khan narrowly escaped by reaching a neighbor's roof, his bodyguard Vinod Sharma was killed, and another individual named Shahid sustained a leg injury. Alam was implicated in the conspiracy, while Tanveer was accused of firing the shots.
This judgment is interwoven with a long-standing gang rivalry. Shahid Alam is the brother of Sabir, a rival of Fahim Khan. Sabir himself was previously sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007 for the murders of Fahim Khan's mother and aunt in 2001. Alam had also been tried and convicted in that double murder case in 2018.
