- Suspect allegedly used victims' bank accounts.
James Desborough, 40, is on trial for the murders of Claudio Aquilino and Daniel Coleman, whose dismembered bodies were found in woodland near his cabin in Cornwall. The prosecution alleges Desborough was inspired by the television series Dexter, noting his comment about enjoying dismemberment scenes. He reportedly confessed to being a killer and planned to flee the UK.
Investigators discovered approximately 1,900 burned bone fragments, believed to be from Aquilino, in a stream. Parts of Coleman's dismembered body were found in a shallow grave nearby, with an axe found on a tree close to the site. Desborough, who knew the victims from a homeless and addiction support residence, is accused of killing them between April and July last year.
Desborough allegedly accessed the victims' bank accounts to create false trails, making it appear one had gone to London and the other was on a walking trail. He is also accused of faking a note from Coleman suggesting he was on a walking trail. Scientific evidence indicates the dismemberment was deliberate and precise, not a panicked act.
