Devon and Cornwall Police is significantly enhancing its frontline presence with the arrival of over 100 new recruits. This diverse group comprises 90 student officers, 16 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), and 14 experienced officers transferring from other forces. Notably, a police dog named Rogue and its handler have also joined the team.
Among the new student officers, 32 are participating in the national Police Now graduate programme. This recruitment initiative is a key component of Chief Constable James Vaughan's strategy to bolster officer numbers. Announced in September 2025, the plan involves reducing senior ranks to redirect resources and personnel back to community-facing roles.
The force has successfully surpassed its government recruitment targets. Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez expressed satisfaction with the progress in recruitment and retention. The newly appointed officers will undergo initial training before being mentored at local stations, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve and protect communities across Devon and Cornwall.
