On November 15, 2025, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued an Amber alert for the abduction of 10-month-old Nalaya Crew. Investigators believe the child was taken by a distant family member, 19-year-old Michelle Hemphill, and Hemphill's boyfriend, 23-year-old Timothy Lee Smith.
Crew's family is deeply concerned for her safety, as Hemphill is currently homeless and lacks the resources to properly care for the infant. According to the police, Hemphill was last seen getting into a blue minivan believed to be driven by Smith near the 6600 block of Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte.
The authorities have provided a detailed description of Nalaya Crew, stating that she was wearing a light gray shirt with black cheetah print, white pants with pink trim, and white socks. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the child or the suspects is urged to contact the police immediately.
This is an ongoing investigation, and the police are working tirelessly to locate the missing child and ensure her safe return to her family.
