Dentist Escapes Profession Ban Over Racist Emails
24 Apr
Summary
- Dentist sent racially charged emails about 'Indian dentistry'.
- Professional tribunal initially ordered permanent removal.
- High Court reduced sanction to a six-month suspension.

A dentist has successfully appealed a decision that would have permanently removed her from the profession due to racially motivated emails. Hanna Grzelczak sent multiple messages to her employer, Damira Dental Studios, expressing a desire not to be associated with what she termed 'Indian dentistry'.
The General Dental Council tribunal had ordered her erasure from the register, with immediate suspension to take effect in September 2025. Grzelczak, who trained in Poland, began working for Damira Dental in Fareham in 2022.
In emails sent from July 2023 onwards, she requested her name be removed from the company's website and stated, "I am not Indian." She also described Damira as "NHS low quality service" and an "Indian company."
On appeal, a High Court judge ruled the erasure sanction was disproportionate. The judge substituted it with a six-month suspension, finding it sufficient to protect the public and maintain professional confidence.
