3 Jul
Summary
- A Delhi singer received extortion calls for Rs 5 crore from a gangster.
- Threats included violence at shows and direct contact from abroad.
- Gangster Deepak Nandal operates an international extortion syndicate.
A Delhi-based singer has become the target of an alleged extortion plot demanding Rs 5 crore, with calls attributed to foreign-based gangster Deepak Nandal. The singer's manager initially received calls from a Portugal-based number, followed by voice notes and calls from other international numbers, with the caller identifying as Nandal.
The intimidation escalated as the singer himself started receiving threats via WhatsApp from foreign numbers. These included warnings to "talk sense" into his manager and threats of violence at his shows. The caller allegedly used abusive language, making the calls difficult to trace.
Investigations are underway, with police examining call records and international numbers linked to the threats. Nandal, a Haryana-based gangster, is known to operate an extensive extortion and criminal syndicate from abroad, with a primary focus on Gurgaon, Delhi, and surrounding areas.
Nandal's syndicate has been linked to several high-profile incidents, including a major realtor shootout in Gurgaon last September over a financial dispute, for which Nandal later claimed responsibility on social media. His associates have also been involved in firing incidents related to fashion designers and event organizers, and even the murder of a financier.
