A 23-year-old man named Vikrant Tomar was apprehended by Delhi Police in the Burari area, accused of defrauding approximately 20 female police constables of around ₹24 lakh. Tomar cultivated an image of immense wealth on Instagram, frequently showcasing rented luxury cars and a high-end lifestyle to attract his victims.
His elaborate scheme involved posing as a wealthy businessman and promising marriage to female constables from the same recruitment batch. To enhance his credibility during dates, he would rent sports cars for short periods, taking the women to upscale venues. He also pitched fraudulent investment opportunities. Authorities believe he may have had inside information, possibly through a live-in relationship with one of the constables.
The scam unraveled when one constable filed a complaint, leading to the discovery of numerous similar incidents within the same police unit. Despite the large number of alleged victims, several have reportedly been hesitant to file formal complaints. Tomar, who was out on bail for previous offenses, now faces significant legal challenges. The case has sparked widespread discussion online, with users comparing Tomar to the fictional con artist Ricky Bahl and expressing astonishment at his ability to deceive law enforcement officers.
