A 28-year-old gardener, Sanwara Gujjar, was apprehended in New Delhi for allegedly operating as a serial housebreaker. He is accused of conducting reconnaissance in affluent neighborhoods, identifying locked homes, and then breaking in to steal valuables. His alleged crime spree came to light after a significant burglary on May 20, 2026, at a lawyer couple's home in Pamposh Enclave, Greater Kailash-I.
The stolen items from that residence included gold, diamond, and silver jewellery valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, along with Rs 6.5 lakh in cash. Gujjar, originally from Rajasthan, confessed to his modus operandi, which involved changing hideouts and using local contacts to dispose of stolen goods.
Investigators discovered Gujjar had a previous involvement in a theft case from 2020, for which a non-bailable warrant had been issued. Police are currently examining his potential links to other similar burglaries. Authorities have recovered a diamond watch worth Rs 12 lakh, another luxury watch valued at Rs 3 lakh, a diamond solitaire ring, high-end earrings, a moon bracelet, and Rs 3.6 lakh in cash.
