Constable Shoots Wife Dead After Birthday Argument

A Delhi Police constable, Manish, is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Priyanka Bhati, on Monday morning. The incident occurred near a Metro pillar in Kalyanpuri, hours after Priyanka's 34th birthday. Relatives allege she faced dowry harassment. Police stated the couple left their home after an argument, and Manish may have claimed he was taking her for treatment. CCTV footage captured them arguing before the shooting. Manish, who joined the police in 2022, allegedly fled after the incident, leaving his phone behind. A murder case has been registered, and a magisterial inquiry is underway.

Priyanka, a computer science teacher, was reportedly injured before the shooting, leading her family to suspect a physical altercation at home. A pizza delivery executive, with the help of passersby, took Priyanka to the hospital. She was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police are conducting raids to apprehend Manish, who is currently absconding. The couple had been married for less than seven years, prompting the magisterial inquiry.
