A special Pocso court in Dehradun has handed down a life sentence to a music teacher for the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl. The student had been receiving guitar lessons at the teacher's residence for approximately eight months. The court further ordered the convict to pay a Rs 1 lakh fine and Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the child.
The prosecution stated that the incident came to light on January 12, 2024, when the girl began avoiding lessons and confided in her mother about the assault. She revealed that the accused had recorded videos and issued threats if she disclosed the abuse.
Police registered a case and arrested the music teacher on January 13. A forensic examination of his cellphone and electronic devices revealed videos containing obscene material involving the minor survivor. The court considered the 8-year-old's testimony credible, alongside statements from her parents and other witnesses, and found sufficient evidence to prove the charges.
