On Saturday, the decomposed body of a 35-year-old woman was found inside a locked house in the Shakkar Mill Khalwa area of Kanpur, India. The house had been locked for the past 4 days, and neighbors reported a strong foul smell coming from the residence, prompting them to inform the local police station.
When the police arrived, they were unable to contact the occupant and had to break the lock to enter the house. Inside, they discovered blood seeping through a sheet beneath a cot, and upon further inspection, found the body of Bharti Gautam, the daughter of Ashadevi. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, and the police suspect that Gautam was strangled by a youth named Rohit, with whom she had been in a live-in relationship for the past 8 years.
Rohit is currently missing, and the police are investigating the case. Neighbors reported that on Tuesday night, they had seen Rohit sitting outside the house, and he had told someone that he was unable to sleep. The house remained locked from the following day onwards.
The exact cause of Gautam's death will be determined after the post-mortem examination. The police have launched a manhunt for Rohit, who is believed to be the prime suspect in this suspected murder case.
