An investigation into the death of a 19-year-old recruit is ongoing at Naval Station Great Lakes. First responders discovered the unresponsive individual, identified as Joshua Jones of Florida, on February 8. Despite attempts to administer CPR, the young sailor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy. However, official cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further toxicology testing. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has taken the lead in the death investigation, which is currently active.
