According to the police, in 2020, Mohit and his friend Nitin had confessed to killing another man, Sagar, during a trip to Haridwar. Sagar's family had filed a complaint, and the murder trial was still ongoing in court. There had also been an earlier attempt to kill Mohit, in which three men were arrested.

On the day of the latest incident, Dharamveer and Mohit had left their village around 9:30 am for Kharkhoda when the attack occurred. Police have formed five teams to crack the case and are confident the accused will be arrested soon.
