Stolen BMW Plows into Sunderland Care Home, Killing Two Elderly Residents

On November 11, 2025, two men who stole a BMW and led police on a dangerous chase were sentenced for their roles in a deadly crash that killed two elderly residents of a Sunderland care home. The incident occurred last month when the stolen vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Sam Asgari-Tabar, crashed into the Highcliffe Care Home at high speed.

Horrifying footage showed the BMW flying through the air before slamming into the care home, causing catastrophic damage. Eight residents were rushed to the hospital, including a 94-year-old dementia patient who suffered multiple fractures to her back and neck after being trapped under the rubble. Tragically, two women in their 80s and 90s passed away the following day due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Asgari-Tabar, who was already banned from driving and on a suspended sentence, was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for robbery and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. His passenger, Reece Parish, received three years and one month for robbery and violent disorder. The judge described the incident as "probably one of the worst series of offending of this type" he had encountered in his career.
