A Washington D.C. man, Wonell Jones Jr., 38, has been convicted of murdering the mother of his children. The conviction occurred on July 16, 2026. Jones shot Audora Williams, 33, more than 20 times using two different firearms, while eight children were present in the residence. Williams, who shared two children with Jones, had previously obtained a temporary protective order against him. A hearing for this order was scheduled just days after the fatal incident.
On the afternoon of July 19, 2022, Jones violated the protective order by going to Williams' apartment. Their argument escalated in the bedroom, with Jones reportedly accusing her of cheating. Jones' 15-year-old son testified that he heard "muffled hitting noises" followed by gunshots. Jones then briefly left the room before returning to continue firing before fleeing the scene.
Following the murder, Jones reportedly escaped to Florida. He was apprehended approximately one month later and extradited back to Washington, D.C. Jones faces convictions for first-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. His sentencing is scheduled for October 30, 2026.
