During one incident on Sunday, South Daytona Beach Police Officer Jake Fessenden was critically injured after a suspect, Todd Anthony Martin, allegedly opened fire during a pursuit. Martin crashed his vehicle on I-95 and then engaged officers before being shot. He is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds and severe burns.
Authorities are investigating whether the string of violence is connected to the ongoing Spring Break festivities. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with disturbances extending beyond the shootings, impacting traffic and creating a tense atmosphere for residents and tourists.
