Sleeping Girl Killed: Murder Trial Begins

Javen Conner's trial began this Monday, with prosecutors alleging he is responsible for the death of 12-year-old Isabella Carlos. The young girl was asleep in her bed when stray bullets, fired by Conner, entered her home. The incident occurred on August 23, 2024, when Conner and his brother, Antawan Benson, reportedly fired over three dozen shots at a duplex on West Fairview Avenue.

Prosecutors contend that the gunfire was directed at a duplex where a woman known to the brothers from social media resided. Evidence presented includes surveillance footage allegedly showing the brothers with high-powered weapons hours before the shooting. Antawan Benson was previously convicted in a trial that concluded last week, with prosecutors securing a conviction against him.

Conner's defense, however, is focusing on reasonable doubt, with his lawyer questioning the alleged motive for the shooting and suggesting that the prosecution has not definitively proven Conner's guilt. The defense plans to argue that if the jury closely examines the testimony, they will find inconsistencies that point to Conner's innocence. The trial is anticipated to last approximately one week.
