15 Nov
Summary
- Darwin woman spent thousands on cosmetic procedures
- Became a poster girl for Vietnamese dental tourism agency
- Died at a luxury Phuket resort after a night of heavy drinking

In November 2025, a tragic incident occurred at a lavish Thai resort, claiming the life of a 47-year-old woman from Darwin, Australia. Karla Drescher, who had spent thousands on Botox, fillers, and other cosmetic procedures over the years, had become a poster girl for a Vietnamese dental tourism agency, Glam Jet, after undergoing $10,000 worth of dental work with them.
Just nine months after her dental transformation, Ms. Drescher traveled to Phuket, Thailand, where she stayed at the luxurious Sawasdee Village Resort, enjoying a $700-per-night room and $230 spa packages. On the night of October 26th, she spent the evening partying with a 49-year-old German tourist, Perry Shamiri, at a local bar. The pair returned to Ms. Drescher's room, where they continued drinking, with Ms. Drescher eventually falling asleep.
Tragically, Ms. Drescher never woke up. Mr. Shamiri, who was found to be heavily intoxicated, discovered her unresponsive the next morning and alerted the authorities. While the exact cause of death is still under investigation, it is believed that Ms. Drescher may have suffered a cardiac arrest due to an accidental overdose of anxiety medication and alcohol. The police have cleared Mr. Shamiri as a suspect, and he has since left Thailand.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with the pursuit of cosmetic perfection and the risks of excessive alcohol consumption, even in the most luxurious of settings.
