In Darbhanga, a significant development has occurred in the investigation of alleged sexual exploitation of a minor. Local storyteller Shravan Das was arrested on Saturday by Darbhanga police. He is accused of exploiting a 17-year-old girl under the false pretense of marriage.
The arrest followed a month-long search after the minor's mother filed an FIR at the Women's police station in December. The investigation is proceeding under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The girl reported that Das began exploiting her from March 2, 2024, after initially contacting her mother in June 2023. She also alleged he coerced her into undergoing two abortions using pills, which severely impacted her health.
Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy confirmed that sufficient evidence has been gathered. The accused was apprehended based on a tip-off, and a special investigation team is leading the efforts. Meanwhile, an associate guru named Mouni Baba is reportedly absconding, and their role is under scrutiny.
