Kinahan Arrested in Dubai After Global Manhunt

The arrest of Daniel Kinahan in Dubai signifies a major milestone in an extensive international law enforcement effort. He was previously identified in Ireland's High Court as a key figure controlling the operations of an international organized crime group involved in smuggling drugs and firearms across continents.

Kinahan, born in Dublin in 1977, is the eldest son of Christy Kinahan, who allegedly founded the family's criminal enterprise. The Kinahan cartel was notably involved in a violent feud with the Hutch gang in Ireland, which resulted in numerous fatalities, including the 2016 shooting of David Byrne at a boxing event, believed to have been intended for Daniel Kinahan.

Following the feud, Kinahan relocated from Ireland, eventually settling in Dubai. His alleged role in organizing a heavyweight boxing match also drew significant attention. In 2022, U.S. authorities issued a substantial reward for his capture and imposed sanctions on senior members of the Kinahan gang. The recent arrest by Dubai police, executed following an arrest warrant obtained by Irish authorities and bilateral agreements, precedes extradition proceedings.
