A Bay Area family narrowly escaped a harrowing home invasion on April 7 when Jason Thomas Nichols, wearing a trench coat and a Demon Slayer anime T-shirt, attempted to break into their Fairfield residence. Initially, Nichols calmly requested entry but quickly became aggressive, eventually forcing his way through a sliding glass door.
The homeowner, alerted by a Ring doorbell camera, rushed back to his home where his pregnant wife and five-year-old son were sheltering in the garage. Confronting Nichols inside the house, the homeowner used a shovel to defend his family. Both men sustained head injuries during the altercation.
Fairfield police arrived shortly after and arrested Nichols, who faces charges including burglary, assault, vandalism, and criminal threats. His bond was later increased to $250,000 due to the threat he posed.
During his first court appearance, Nichols was also charged with annoying or molesting a child, related to his apparent search for an imaginary daughter within the home. Authorities confirmed Nichols lives in the house behind the victims' residence.
