Gangster's MCOCA Custody Extended in Extortion Case

A special court in Mumbai has extended the police custody of gangster Ravi Mallesh Bora, known as D K Rao, and his two co-accused, Anil Parerao and Mimit Bhuta, until November 26. This decision comes after their re-arrest under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in connection with an extortion case.
The Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) had initially arrested the trio in October, who have since been in judicial custody. The prosecution sought extended custody under MCOCA, citing the need to recover evidence, establish links to properties acquired through illegal means, and gather further evidence.
Despite defense arguments citing procedural non-compliance, the special judge ruled that the grounds for arrest were communicated in writing to all accused, satisfying MCOCA provisions. Consequently, they were remanded to AEC custody for continued interrogation.
