Declyn 'Dex' Lauper, son of singer Cyndi Lauper, has been granted a year of probation in a Manhattan court for a criminal possession of a weapon charge. This outcome allows him to avoid a potential seven-year prison sentence as part of a plea agreement.
Lauper, 29, was found with a loaded Glock .48 caliber handgun and drugs in February 2024. This occurred near the scene where a friend had been shot. His attorney stated the plea deal was a positive resolution for his music career.
As part of his probation, Lauper must undergo substance abuse treatment and remain out of trouble for the next year. If successful, he can plead to a lesser charge of criminal possession of a firearm, resulting in a three-year conditional discharge.
Previously, in October 2022, Lauper was arrested for possession of a stolen Mercedes Benz, for which he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and received community service. He had reportedly name-dropped his mother to arresting officers during that incident.
