On November 2nd, 2025, the body of a 29-year-old woman named Bhawna Pal was recovered from the Betwa River in Jhansi. Bhawna had mysteriously gone missing a few days earlier on Tuesday.
Bhawna's husband, Sher Singh, had seen her leaving their home with a small container of water, which she usually carried when going to the temple. However, she did not return home after a long time, prompting the family to approach the police.
Further investigation revealed that Bhawna had fallen victim to a cyber fraud. She had come across an advertisement on social media for a pencil company that promised good monthly income for packaging work from home. Bhawna contacted the alleged company officials, who took around Rs 35,000 from her in the name of registration and security deposit. After paying the money, which she had borrowed from her relatives, Bhawna realized it was a scam, as the people she was in contact with online suddenly disappeared.
Devastated by the loss of her money, Bhawna slipped into depression, which ultimately led her to take the extreme step of ending her life. On Saturday, her body was found floating in the Betwa River. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
