A court in Cuttack has refused bail to Bhimsen Prasad Tudu, an Odisha Tax and Accounts Service (OTAS) trainee arrested for his alleged role in the suicide of a third-year MBBS student. The Additional Sessions Judge noted that the investigation is in its early stages and releasing Tudu could impede the probe.
The judge expressed concerns that the accused might not cooperate or could influence prosecution witnesses if granted bail. The court emphasized the gravity of the alleged offenses and their social impact, deeming bail inappropriate at this juncture. Tudu was arrested on June 13, 2026, in connection with the death of Chandrika Hembram, whose body was found in the Kathajodi river on June 4, 2026.
Hiramani Hansdah, Chandrika's mother, lodged a complaint alleging Tudu's responsibility for her daughter's death. The complaint detailed a 15-year relationship between Tudu and Chandrika, which allegedly soured when Tudu began seeing another woman, leading to mental harassment of Chandrika. Following Tudu's arrest, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered his dismissal from government service on June 27, 2026.
