When the St. Louis crew failed to locate the target, Iza intensified pressure on the Miami crew. Prosecutors presented evidence showing Iza texting instructions to "knock out the parents." Instead, the Miami crew carjacked and assaulted the target's parents in Danbury, Connecticut, after ramming their Lamborghini. The Chetals were bound with duct tape and stuffed into a van.
Following a police chase, seven suspects were apprehended. Prosecutors highlighted Iza's extensive planning, recruitment of others, enthusiasm for violence, and contempt for the law. His defense argued a lack of direct link to a Telegram account used in the crime, but this was dismissed by prosecutors. Iza's attorney cited a tragic family history as a mitigating factor.
Iza, who previously built a fortune in crypto and allegedly had former LAPD deputies on his payroll for intimidation, faces further sentencing in California on October 5th for charges including tax evasion and wire fraud. He plans to appeal his current sentence.
