Summary
- 23-year-old man jailed for 16 weeks for cruelty against badgers
- Filmed his dogs attacking and killing badgers for entertainment
- Caused severe injuries to his own dog, Shirley, by using her for hunting

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a 23-year-old man from Bedwas, South Wales has been sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for his involvement in the torture and killing of badgers. Lloyd Davies unleashed his lurcher dogs, including his own pet named Shirley, on the protected wild animals and filmed the vicious attacks for his own entertainment.
The court heard that in one particularly sickening incident, a wounded badger was stabbed with a knife after being savaged by Davies' dogs. Additionally, Davies had loaned his female lurcher Shirley to others so they could carry out similar attacks, resulting in the dog suffering multiple severe injuries.
District Judge Sophie Toms described the case as "one of the most serious cases of cruelty" she had ever dealt with, condemning Davies' "deliberate and sadistic cruelty" that was "filmed and shared for entertainment." Alongside his jail sentence, Davies has been banned from keeping any animals for the rest of his life.

The RSPCA's Special Operations Unit, who investigated the case, welcomed the strong message sent by the court that such "appalling acts will not be tolerated." Gwent Police also emphasized the importance of their partnership with the RSPCA in ensuring offenders like Davies face justice for their cruel behavior against animals.
