- He alleges police assaulted him after he reported the findings.
- Hospital and police deny assault, citing aggressive behavior.
A CRPF jawan, Sonu Singh, claims he was assaulted by police after filming syringes and drug evidence in a psychiatric ward at Govt Rajindra Hospital on Tuesday. Singh alleged outsiders were using synthetic drugs in a bathroom opposite his ward. He reported this to doctors earlier, but after no action, he documented the evidence and showed it to a doctor.
Hospital authorities and police have refuted Singh's allegations. They state that Singh exhibited aggressive behavior, disrupted the psychiatric ward, and refused prescribed medication and treatment, leading to his discharge. Police assert that officers acted on a complaint from hospital doctors and denied detaining Singh or filing a case, citing his mental health.
Officials mentioned that drug use by patients in withdrawal is not uncommon in the vicinity of the de-addiction center adjoining the ward. The jawan's wife also alleged that police removed his turban during the altercation. Doctors at the hospital had reportedly threatened to go on strike over the incident.
