Cowshed Scam: Rs 20 Lakh Paid, No Shelter Built
18 Oct
Summary
- Rs 20.22 lakh paid for cowshed project with no cattle shelters built.
- Officials allegedly bypassed tenders favoring a specific supplier.
- FIR registered against six, including engineers and a contractor.
An Economic Offences Wing (EOW) investigation has uncovered a significant fraud involving a cowshed construction project in Rewa district, sanctioned for Rs 37.85 lakh under the MGNREGA scheme. Officials from the Rural Engineering Services division are accused of bypassing standard tender procedures to benefit a single supplier.
Despite Rs 20.22 lakh being paid out of the total uploaded bills of Rs 27.38 lakh, physical verification revealed only a partially built boundary wall and an incomplete structure. Essential facilities like cattle sheds, a borewell, and a water tank were entirely absent, rendering the site unsuitable for its intended purpose.
An FIR has been lodged against six individuals, including former engineers and the supplier, under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused face charges related to criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, with further investigations ongoing.
