A Michigan judge has sentenced a mother and her boyfriend to life in prison without parole for the murder of the mother's 6-year-old son. Daniel Giacchina and Elaina Jennings were convicted of murder, child abuse, and lying to police in the death of Giovanni Jennings, who died on July 30, 2024, from blunt force trauma and a perforated bowel.
Prosecutors detailed a pattern of horrific abuse, including confining Giovanni to a "pen" in the bedroom and regular physical assaults. Investigations revealed that less than two weeks before his death, Giacchina stapled the child face-first to a wall, sending a photo of the incident to Jennings, who reportedly laughed.
Jennings was aware of the abuse and, at times, encouraged Giacchina to assault her son. Investigators found Giovanni's body covered in injuries, including bruising and lacerations across his entire body. Both defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment.
